Questions on Insurance
Kintsukuroi Counseling is not in network with any insurance providers and is considered a private-pay or out of network provider. Should you have mental health coverage through your insurance and wish to utilize out of network reimbursement, you may request a super-bill from the clinician at the time of service. It should be noted that couple’s counseling is generally not covered under insurance or health savings account (HSA). Clients are responsible to check with their insurance provider to assess if couple’s counseling is covered under their benefits and if HSA can be used for couple’s counseling. Often a clinical diagnosis is required to access those benefits and as such, may be listed on the receipt provided. Clients are responsible to verify whether counseling is considered an eligible expense if using HSA to pay for services.
The federal No Surprises Act went into effect January 1, 2022. It requires that we provide clients with no insurance or who self-pay with a Good Faith Estimate for the services they will receive. See below (NSA-Good Faith Estimate) for your rights under this new law.
Credit Card Authorization
A credit card must be on file and will be charged the same day as a missed appointment or an appointment that is not canceled with at least 24 hours-notice. In these cases, a fee of 50% of the normal session fee will be charged. In the case of giving 15 min or less notice, a fee of 100% of normal session fee will be charged.
Manage Financial Barriers to Seeking Counseling
If the cost of therapy makes it difficult to continue sessions, talk with your therapist about your options. Shorter sessions or less frequent sessions could be appropriate. Fee reductions may be available for a limited number of sessions. Consider utilizing psychoeducational groups and group therapy options supplemented by 1:1 treatment.
Fee reductions may be available for a limited number of sessions (up to 6 sessions) if your therapist has space on their caseload for reduced fee work. Contact info@kintsukuroicounseling to request an application for fee reduction. Fee contracts will be reviewed annually, each time a reduction expires, if your therapist raises his or her rates, or if there is a change in your annual household income.

Good Faith Estimate Notification
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059.
